Four Weeks of Summer Delights
Winter may be here, but the memories of the summer at LifeTown still warm the hearts of many. For the first time ever, Friendship Circle hosted a full four-week summer program at LifeTown. Open to children, teens and young adults, with different groups of different ages, everyone participated in a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts, sports, baking and more each day.
“The fact that we were able to have a full month of camp while keeping safe during the uptick from the Delta variant was amazing. It was something we had planned to do before Covid and that we were able to do it now was just such a remarkable accomplishment,” said program director Chavi Rosenblum. “Camp was our first major program after reopening and the place was buzzing. The rooms were full. There was noise in the hallway.”
Every day brought more fun and more excitement, including a variety of special events, including music classes, pony rides, a balloon show, petting zoo and a bubble show. Everything was designed to bring joy and smiles and get the kids moving. Camp activities included swimming at the Westminster Hotel, which is adjacent to LifeTown.
Many outdoor activities took place in the LifeTown park and football field, including sprinklers and a foam machine for kids to run through. “The kids loved it!” Rosenblum said.
While many families that participated have done so in the past, Rosenblum said this year’s expanded camp schedule brought many new faces and the return of some kids who hadn’t been at an FC program in a while. “This is something we’ve continued to address over the years, as different families have different needs and it’s important to be able to provide a variety of activities and events to address those needs.”
