Make Waves: Become a Lifeguard at LifeTown

LifeTown’s zero-entry indoor therapy pool is more than just a place to swim. It is a hub of joy, growth and independence for children, teens and adults with special needs. Now, as demand for programs continues to grow, LifeTown is seeking lifeguards to help keep the pool safe and welcoming for everyone.

With its gradual zero-entry slope and a maximum depth of only four and a half feet, the pool is uniquely designed for accessibility and safety. This design also makes lifeguard certification much easier than at traditional pools, since the training is tailored to a shallow water environment. Anyone age 15 and older who can swim has the chance to become certified and step into a meaningful role at LifeTown.

“Every time someone enters the pool, you can see their confidence grow,” said LifeTown executive director Toba Grossbaum. “The pool was built so that everyone can enjoy the freedom of swimming, and lifeguards are the ones who make those moments possible.”

LifeTown has already hosted certification sessions and plans to offer additional trainings to make the process simple for new recruits. Flexible shifts allow lifeguards to fit their service into school, work or personal schedules.

More than simply watching the water, lifeguards at LifeTown help create life changing experiences. From a child floating for the first time, to a teen building independence, to an adult discovering the joy of therapeutic play, lifeguards are at the heart of it all.
