LifeTown Delivers Fun for Everyone

For families who have children with special needs, LifeTown is a safe haven that not only entertains but provides much needed caregivers and resources.

On Sunday, August 11th LifeTown held an open house for existing and prospective families. Guests had the ability to experience many of LifeTown’s sought after amenities including the playground, sensory room, basketball court, sand room, and outdoor football field. In addition, LifeTown brought in a petting zoo, train rides, and a bounce house for all to explore and enjoy.

But LifeTown isn’t just another typical Sunday afternoon activity destination. The facility is not only one of a kind, but life-changing for the special needs community.

“We have nothing like this where we live,” said Courtney Klock, a Hillsborough resident who attended the open house with her husband and 5-year-old daughter. “There’s nothing that’s comprehensive like this.”

Having so many engaging activities under one roof is only part of what makes LifeTown unique. Parents who have children, teens, and adults with special needs flock to the facility for community and much needed resources. Families at the event not only expressed their amazement at all LifeTown has to offer, but also voiced their needs.

“I’m really looking for a place for her to socialize,” said Audrey Martin, a Morristown resident who strolled the LifeTown Shoppes with her 21-year-old daughter. “Ninety percent of the places I go to are not adaptive to her needs as a person who uses a walker or a chair to ambulate in. But everything here is accessible to her. We’re here to see what they offer as far as their daily programs for adults her age.”

LifeTown offers programming for children, teens, and adults. On Monday through Thursday, after school programs are busy engaging participants with swimming, culinary activities, art, games, and socialization. For adults, LifeTown runs morning, afternoon, and evening groups that offer sports, games, movie nights, and skill building.

In addition, LifeTown operates a summer camp and a variety of special events throughout the year. These programs are all run by trained professionals who know how to work with the special needs community. The entire facility, including the zero-entry pool, is ADA accessible for those who need wheelchairs or any additional accommodations.

“This is incredible. We are blown away by it,” said Georgia Rodman. “We have a 6-year-old boy with ADHD and some other behavioral challenges that we’re working through and it’s just amazing to have a safe place where he has access to other kids.”

LifeTown is proud to be a safe destination for the special needs community and ensures that the staff and volunteers are always present to guide families.

“Here, they support special needs any way they can,” said Meaghan Myers, an occupational therapist and behaviorist who has worked at LifeTown for five years. “The resources here, the respite – children can spend two hours at LifeTown while their parents recoup. It’s incredible.”

LifeTown is constantly evolving to meet the needs of its expanding community. For more information on programs offered please visit www.LifeTown.com/programs.
