The Sounds of the Shofar Factory Sound Like Fun

The run-up to Rosh Hashanah found LifeTown parking lot a buzz of activity as dozens of families gathered under the big tent for the annual Rosh Hashanah Shofar Factory. Held outdoors and with social distancing, this year’s event did not disappoint. 

“I thought today’s Shofar Factory was terrific!” said one participant. “Rabbi Y was great—entertaining and informative—the shofar project was fun and useful. I loved the individually packaged projects and other Covid protections. My family had a great time and I feel like we got some holiday spirit during a year where such things are scarce.”

Led by Rabbi Yisroel Rosenblum of Living Legacy, the interactive program, gave families a crash course in what makes an animal kosher and discovered where shofars come from by seeing a variety of kosher animal horns and learning why they could or couldn’t be used for Rosh Hashanah.

They also got a chance to see how a horn becomes a shofar and learned about the significance of the sounding of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah.  

The children also got a honey cupcake as a sweet way to bring in the Jewish New Year.
