Adult Volunteers Kick Off Year of Impact at LifeTown

There is something special about walking into LifeTown and seeing the smiles of dedicated volunteers who make the magic happen. That energy was front and center on Wednesday, September 9, when 100 volunteers gathered for the Adult Volunteer Kickoff Brunch. Everyone enjoyed a delicious spread of bagels, muffins, smoothies and fruit, while they reconnected and recharged for a new school year.

“It’s great to be back after the summer and learn about all the new updates,” said Judy Weinberger. “My favorite thing about volunteering is interacting with the kids and knowing that we’re really helping.”

At LifeTown, adult volunteers help create a one-of-a-kind experience for children as they navigate the interactive LifeTown Shoppes. In addition, volunteers lend a hand at special events, lively Torah Circle groups, and welcome guests at the front desk.

Last year, more than 10,000 students visited LifeTown, and the volunteers helped transform each visit into an inspiring and empowering experience.

“This event is amazing,” said Randi Greene, who has volunteered at LifeTown for over a year. “It’s really nice that Friendship Circle does this. It makes us feel good but we’re also here to help the kids, which is the most important thing. I’d like to get more involved because I’m not working and I’m excited to give more of my time.”

At LifeTown, volunteers are valued not only for their time, but also for the unique skills and warmth they bring. Each volunteer is matched with a role that best suits them, creating an atmosphere where both the participants and volunteers thrive.

“It’s a wonderful facility and this is a wonderful opportunity,” said Iris Slomovitz. “I have a background in special education and volunteering at LifeTown has given me a new way to use my skills. The staff is kind and appreciates all the volunteers and the time that we give.”

“I don’t believe that I’ve ever volunteered for an organization that appreciated their volunteers as much as LifeTown does,” added Sheila Turteltaub.

This year’s brunch also included training on the new volunteer app and receiving custom keychains, leaving everyone inspired and ready to dive into a new year of meaningful impact.

LifeTown is always open for more helping hands. In addition to individual volunteers, LifeTown offers opportunities for companies, community groups and schools to volunteer together, strengthening teamwork while making a difference.
