Rabbi Moshe Herson: A Legacy of Vision and Leadership

Rabbi Moshe Herson, who passed away on January 23, 2025, at the age of 90, was Dean of the Rabbinical College of America and Director of Chabad of New Jersey. Through his visionary leadership, Rabbi Herson transformed the Rabbinical College into an international beacon of scholarship and spiritual guidance, ordaining countless rabbis annually. His tireless efforts also fostered the establishment of more than 72 Chabad centers across New Jersey, significantly enriching Jewish life and strengthening communities statewide.

As a trusted and devoted emissary of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, Rabbi Herson was appointed by the Rebbe to serve on the board of Agudas Chassidei Chabad—the umbrella organization of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. In this role, he played a pivotal part in advancing the Rebbe’s vision of spreading Jewish knowledge, connection, and outreach across the globe.
Rabbi Herson’s impact extended far beyond the walls of the Rabbinical College. He was a partner in the founding of Friendship Circle and LifeTown. “We are forever grateful for his unwavering support throughout the years,” said Rabbi Zalman Grossbaum. “In our most recent conversation just weeks ago, as he had done countless times before, he urged us to continue expanding our reach and gave us his heartfelt blessings for success.”
Rabbi Herson’s profound impact, steadfast dedication, and unwavering vision will forever remain a source of inspiration and guidance for all who were privileged to know him. His enduring legacy of education, leadership, and community building continues to serve as a guiding light for future generations.
