Join LifeTown Shoppes Adult Volunteer Experience on December 3

When elementary school art teacher Tara Kanter walked through the doors of LifeTown alongside her 12-year-old son Jordan, she didn’t know what to expect. It was their first day volunteering together at the LifeTown Shoppes, an interactive indoor simulated city geared towards individuals with special needs, empowering them to master life’s essential skills.

Kanter knew they would be working with children, and she was excited to learn their assignment. As luck would have it, Tara and Jordan were placed in Ahuva’s Art Shop. Jordan was volunteering as part of a philanthropy project for his Bar Mitzvah and Tara was tagging along, eager to help the participants.

“I enjoyed this bonding moment,” said Kanter. “I was able to share my love for volunteering and art with him. We had a great time assisting the children with the various art projects.”

By the time they wrapped up to leave, Jordan and Tara had connected with all the children at the art shop. Jordan was especially touched when one of the children gave him a hug goodbye. He knew in that moment that by just volunteering his time he had made someone’s day a bit brighter.

“I always have a smile on my face when I leave,” said Kanter, who is a regular volunteer at LifeTown. “And I can’t wait to volunteer again.”

Stay at home mom Jenn Kong had a similar experience volunteering at the Shoppes. Kong is typically stationed in the salon, where she helps children paint their nails bright colors and styles their hair. A nail session with one little girl turned into a gab fest about her interest in music and singing. To Kong’s surprise, the girl began singing for her.

“She sang so beautifully,” said Kong. “It was amazing to witness how talented she is.”

“It’s the best when you see kids look in the mirror with a huge smile on their face,” said Allison Hershkin, another LifeTown salon volunteer. “Friendship Circle couldn’t make the volunteering process any easier. It’s always a very meaningful and personal experience.”

Companies can also volunteer as a corporate team at LifeTown. Recently, 11 employees from Metropolitan Commercial Bank took on a variety of roles at LifeTown, helping kids with special needs navigate all the different Shoppes.

“The highlight of the day for all of us was witnessing the infectious smiles of our young visitors,” said David Naranjo, Vice President, Marketing Manager at Metropolitan Commercial Bank. “Our bankers cherished the opportunity to interact with curious minds in the beautiful setting of LifeTown’s Shoppes. Their curiosity and kindness deeply moved us, showing how community support can have a profoundly positive impact on people’s lives. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of giving back.”

Volunteering at LifeTown is an unforgettable and moving experience. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for adults. Volunteers are placed according to interest and ability to ensure the best experience for everyone involved.

This fall, LifeTown is looking to add more incredible volunteers to its already dedicated team. On December 3, they are hosting an Adult Volunteer Experience at LifeTown. The event includes lunch, entertainment, and fun activities for adults interested in learning more about LifeTown’s meaningful volunteer opportunities.

Committing to only a few hours a week can make a huge impact on someone’s life. In turn, volunteering is a fulfilling and unforgettable experience. Make a difference today!
