Planting Seeds for Volunteers

Volunteers are an essential part of LifeTown’s activities and key to its mission of integrating people with unique abilities and the larger community. Each day that the LifeTown Shoppes are open, adult volunteers participate as florists, bankers, manicurists, police officers and more.

The volunteers help the visiting school groups navigate the Shoppes and apply the Lessons for Life curriculum in each store and experience. During their visit the students reinforce classroom lessons as they practice life skills, social skills and other IEP related activities.

On June 22, as the school year was winding down, all the adult volunteers were honored at the LifeTown Shoppes Volunteer Thank You Luncheon.  The event offered time for volunteers to meet and greet one another and they also had the opportunity to create a potted plant arrangement, which they took home as a token of appreciation for all the lives they helped blossom.
