Meet LifeTown’s New Education Director
With LifeTown programs ramping up for the upcoming school year, we are pleased to announce our newest hire, Shira Schwarz, who will serve as the education director. Shira will be building the curriculum that schools will use during their educational visits to LifeTown and the LifeTown Shoppes.
Welcome, Shira. Tell us a little about your work background:
I am a licensed Occupational Therapist, and have worked in rehabilitation facilities with adults prior to starting at LifeTown.
Why did you want to join LifeTown?
I am excited to be at LifeTown because it couples my love of helping people achieve their highest potential and planning wonderful opportunities for those individuals to do so.
I know you are going to be working closely with local schools. Why should educators consider bringing students to LifeTown?
I think it is important for students to utilize LifeTown Shoppes so they can practice life skills learned within their classroom in a safe and supportive environment. They will then carry over the skills learned into their communities in the future.
Also, I want parents and educators to know that LifeTown has so many opportunities available for students beyond just what is written in black and white. The students who visit are going to really engaged in real-world scenarios within the supportive environment LifeTown is known for.
What is your favorite part of LifeTown?
You mean aside from the LifeTown Shoppes? That would have to be the zero entry pool. I have to say I also love researching what the building used to look like and what it looks like now. I cannot wait to see what the future brings with this amazing building.
Anything else we should know?
When I am not at LifeTown, I love spending time with my husband and our two girls, ages 6 and 2.
