How Do You Sign Friendship?
Actions speak louder than words for 25 Friendship Circle teen volunteers who are spending the next five weeks learning the basics of American Sign Language. The course, which is being taught by Barbara Warter, will help the teens learn the basics and beauty of American Sign Language. Most importantly, says Warter, the teens are learning important ways to incorporate simple signs thereby facilitating their communications with children of all ages and abilities (as well as having fun being able to talk in a “secret” language.) The class is the latest in a series of Volunteer Educational Seminars offered to teen volunteers to give them the tools and skills they need to be a great friend to a child with special needs.
